Analytical film review of “Residents of Nowhere” held at Charsou Cineplex

The analytical film review of “Residents of Nowhere”, directed and produced by Shahab Hosseini was held at Charsou Cineplex and attended by
Manouchehr Akbarlou, a critic and researcher of cinema and theatre.

According to the public relations report of the Art and Experience Cinema Group, at the beginning of this meeting, Shahab Hosseini, while thanking the Art and Experience Group for the screening of this film, said: "Some of the works smell of rain-soaked soil and give a sense of familiarity."
Hosseini said I have this feeling for Mr. Schmidt's works, and I feel that the concern of these works is the aspect of remembrance.  Therefore, the first time I read the play "Hotel of Two Worlds", I was very impressed and interested in reflecting on it.
He continued by pointing out that he always thinks about death. I had a heart problem in 2014 and this made me think more about the other world.  After that, my studies became more serious in this regard.
Hosseini stated that he grew up in a generation where access to movies was difficult; therefore, watching a movie was very important for our generation and we tried to give more importance to the content of the movie.
Referring to his serious interest in Schmidt's works, he said that his familiarity with Mr. Schmidt's texts was formed through the fascinating play The Visitor.  We performed this play in the 80s in the Niavaran cultural centre.  Eric Emanuel Schmidt is known for writing literature that is primarily philosophical.  As a writer, he says his goal is to present and explore philosophical ideas that are simple enough to understand, and this can easily be seen in the “Visitor” play.
He continued that the main themes in this play are important issues such as the human condition and defects, belief in God, etc.  Schmidt's works never force people to change their thoughts, he usually uses these situations and conveys more important content.
According to Schmidt, life is such a blessing that important and lasting work should be done during it.
Referring to the “Residents of Nowhere” film he said that he does not believe in tampering with the text of other scriptwriters, and he is sure that the author has checked the text many times.  Therefore, he did not interfere with the works, and he only tried to bring the names and text closer to Iranian culture.
Shahab Hosseini added that producing any work depends on the conditions of making that work.  In terms of time, the filming of the movie has coincided with the performance of the play” Confession” starring Ali Nasiryan.  This theatre started every night at 21:00 and ended at 23:30; Therefore, the filming of” Residents of Nowhere” started at midnight and continued until 8 a.m.  About 27 filming sessions were done.  Therefore, the filming conditions were ready only at this time.
He continued: In 2017, the cost of making a feature film was estimated between 3 and 5 billion tomans.  This is even though the film “Residents of Nowhere” was made with a cost of 700 million tomans.
While thanking the actors of the movie ", he referred to the scene design of this movie and the use of mirrors in the design, he said: At first, a scene was designed; But we came to the conclusion that this scene does not keep the audience for a long time; So the idea of the mirror came to our mind.
Referring to the plays and stories that exist in Iranian culture, he said that many of these plays could become a movie, and at a time when we are looking for pure subjects for filmmaking, these plays are one of the best sources for adaptation and production.  I personally would like to make a movie based on the works of writers such as Abbas Nalbandian and Gholamhossein Saedi

Akbarlou, a cinematographer, theatre critic, and film critic, referring to the movie and its theme, said the people who have gone into a coma and come back to the world, or astronauts, achieve consciousness and understand the world from their look at another angle; this can be seen in the documentation.
He believes that the more dependent people are on the world, the fewer people's awareness and their denial about death increases, and an example of this can be seen in one of the characters of the movie.
Referring to Schmidt's work, he said: The film has two differences with Schmidt's work. Shahab Hosseini's film depicts 5 stages of people's encounter with death, while the play “Guest House of Two Worlds” is totally different.
He added that the film is an acceptable work in Shahab Hosseini's directorial career, adding that despite its long time, the film attracts the audience, but as an audience, I expected Hosseini’s work to come out of the closed space and a fixed location and showed the backgrounds of the characters.
This meeting was conducted by ali zadmehr. At the end of the meeting, Hosseini and Akbarlou answered the audience's questions.  The meeting was well received by the audience and interested people came from cities such as Yazd and Chabahar.
